  Kids' Riding & Crossing Safely

Students riding a bus should always:
•
Arrive at the bus stop five minutes early.
•	Stand at least 6 giant steps (12 feet) away from the edge of the road.
•	Wait until the bus stops, the door opens, and the driver motions you it’s ok before stepping onto the bus.
•	NEVER cross the road until the driver motions for you to do so.
•	ALWAYS look both ways before entering and exiting the bus and when crossing the road.
•	Be careful that clothing with drawstrings, book bags with straps, or dangling objects do not get caught in the
•	handrail or doorway when exiting the bus.
Crossing students should:
•
Walk in front of the bus; never walk behind the bus.
•	Walk on the sidewalk or along the side of the road to a point at least 6 giant steps (12 feet) ahead of the bus.
•	Wait at the end of the cross gate!
•	Wait for the driver to motion you and walk to the center of the road.
•	Wait for the driver to motion you again, look both ways for traffic, then cross the road.
•	Don't stop walking until you are at least 12 feet away from the road!
